So I found a Craigslist ad for a Jeep Cherokee and I inquired about it thru their phone number. They asked for my email to send info and pics so I did. Here is the conversation back and forth.
Hello there,
My 1999 Jeep Cherokee Classic, is still for sale. This SUV is in great shape. I’m the original owner. It has no damage, no scratches, dents or hidden defects. It is in immaculate condition, meticulously maintained and hasn’t been involved in any accident…Has only 77,785 miles, its automatic, with an 4.0L 6 cylinders engine,4×4, red exterior and gray interior.
I have a clear title, without liens or loans on it, under my name. I am selling it at this final price of $1,500 because my husband died 1 month ago (he had a heart attack) and it brings me bad memories and that’s the reason I want to sell it a.s.a.p. I want to use eBay services for the safety of both of us so if you’re interested in purchasing this vehicle, I can notify eBay that you are selected as my possible buyer and they will contact you to explain the entire procedure.
Thank you,
My brother and I responded with this:
Hi Allison,
Thank you for your email regarding some additional info on your Jeep and my condolences regarding your husband. We are very interested, but would need to see and test drive it before committing to purchase. We also may have some additional questions, but we want 1st crack at it. We are available sometime Saturday or Sunday to come see it and would be happy to purchase at that time. You mentioned wanting to use Ebay, but what was your plan on how to do that? Do you have the Jeep listed there? For test driving and seeing it, my suggestion would be to meet at a Police station parking lot to see the it and drive it as that’s where I prefer to meet clients when I sell on Craigslist. Where is this Jeep located? We are in Bristol. We would like you to kindly hold this until we can make an appointment with you to see it and then we will probably buy it right then and there. For quicker communication my cell is xxx xxx xxxx and my name is Jeremy. You may text or call me or my sister Jessica to set something up. If all goes well, we’d like to own this by Sunday at the latest.
Thank you for your time Allison,
And here’s her response:
Hi again,
Thank you for your kind words and support, I appreciate as I have been through a difficult period in my life after my husband passed away.As I have told you in previous email my husband died recently. I had to move out and now I am living with my parents in Omaha, Nebraska. At the moment they are the only ones I can rely on. The vehicle is at the shipping company sealed and ready for the shipping. The deal includes free delivery and it will arrive at your address in 2-4 days. Once you will get the vehicle you will have 5 days to try it out prior to making any purchase. In the case that you feel that the vehicle is not suitable, you can just return it all fees being on my expense. When receiving it you will have as well all the documents including title, sale bill , 2 sets of keys, full service records and more. The title and the bill of sale will be notarized and signed by me. If you are interested in knowing more info about how it works, I can ask eBay to send you an email with more information on how to purchase it. Please reply with your whole name, a delivery address including (street, city, state, zip code) and ph# and they will contact you right away. As soon as I hear that from you I will initiate the transaction through them.
Have a great day,
Sincerely,
Allison Estrada,
My brother responded with this:
Hi Allison,
You must have an Ebay listing specifying exactly how this works? I’ve been doing Ebay transactions for 10 years and have never heard of such a method. Please have Ebay email me with some additional details or provide me your Ebay name and listing number. We are very interested in doing this deal, but I can’t see with shipping costs and Ebay fees how you are going to make much profit selling this Jeep. I would only do this transaction providing what you say is in an Ebay listing we can see on their site. I’m sure you can appreciate my hesitation.
And my brother also sent this:
Hello,
Something doesn’t add up here. Unless you can provide me an Ebay listing I think we’ll pass. When a listing expires all you need to do is hit the relist button. I’d be happy to view the details of the transaction there.
Thanks,
And then she wouldn’t give us a listing and kept emailing back with these responses. The last one will be our last message back to her:
And yes Jeremy , I have had the Jeep listed for sale on eBay as well but the ad has expired there a couple of days ago and you cannot find it online anymore but if you need further info on how this works I will need your full name full address and phone # to send them over to their representatives and register you to this sale. Then they will process our request and will send us more details on how this entire process will be handled and what we have to do to complete it.As for the shipping fees I am using a gift voucher for shipping and none of us would have to pay for shipping a penny.
Jessica or Jeremy,
I don`t know is that you can`t add up but I don`t want to pay again for a service that I already own just because you want to.If you wish to purchase my Jeep I have provided you a way to do it , if you don`t want it you can just say no.
sincerely,
Allison
Hi Allison,
Since you haven’t provided any info we have asked for we will pass at this time.
Thanks,
