Scams – Fight The Scams

I am posting a list of email addresses that have been used in fake jobs adverts and other fake adverts on Craigslist during 2015. These email addresses have been taken from the fake job postings directly.

All of these email addresses lead back to nasty and vicious foreign criminal gangs, who are involved in numerous crimes against the innocent and unaware public, such as ID theft and check overpayment scams.
These crimes can be committed against you by using the personal details that are shown on your resume, which the criminals know are true, accurate and the information on your resume is not usually found reliably from any other source.

There are several aims of these criminals gang in placing fake job postings:

• To obtain peoples’ private email addresses in order to remotely solicit you and entice you into all kinds of illegal schemes, con tricks and deceptions and to victimize you. The counterfeit/overpayment check scam is one of the more common scams that is used by these criminals.
• To steal your identity from the personal & private information that is on your resume.
• To sell your identity to other criminals
• To sell your email address to other criminals and who will know that your email address is a live address.
• To send you spam, which will never stop.

My advice: Anonymizing (de-personalizing) your resume is a bullet proof way to avoid becoming a victim when you are looking for work. By removing the following information, you will protect yourself from many crimes, but your resume will still allow you be considered for any job opportunity, because none of the following information is required by an employer when they are considering someone for a job.

To anonymize your resume, remove all of the following information, if any of it is on your resume.

1. All of your names
2. Your gender
3. Your address
4. Any phone or fax numbers
5. Any email addresses
6. Your DOB and age
7. Your SSN (yes, some people still have this on their resume!)
8. Your martial status and any children you may have
9. Any photos of you or your family (I know it sounds crazy, but some people like to do this)
10. All previous employer names that you’ve worked for (replace it with something generic, like “major technology company”, “national wholesaler”, “large hospital”, etc)
11. Any specific location information (replace it with something like “major East Coast city” or “mid-west town”, etc)
12. Any unusual or uncommon job titles (replace them with job titles that are similar to any unusual ones you’ve had but which are more generic)
13. Any actual dates that you worked for any employer (replace with the number of years you worked for an employer not the actual years – so 2 years not 2010-2012)
14. Any notable achievements/awards in college or past jobs, which can be found online and which will identify you, especially if you had your photo taken with them. If you have these that you do want to point out on your resume, try to make them generic if you can or be brief.

15. Create a new web email address – see below.

Now, look at your resume. Can you tell who it belongs to? If your answer is no, then nobody else will know either!

The above details in items 1-14 have no real value to a real employer before you are interviewed but they are of great value to a criminal. Some of the above information will be needed by a real employer but not until after you’ve been interviewed and only if you get a job offer and accept it, by which time of course, you will know if they are a legitimate employer.

Your education, skills, training, work experience and personal qualities (if you have a personal profile) are the key elements that a real employer wants to see in determining your suitability for a job and not anything else. All the other stuff is a vestige of the old days, when your resume was a “this is me” and “my life so far” type document and before identity theft and other remote/anonymous crimes had been dreamed up by the villains.

Please remember this: Once your identifying information is obtained by a nefarious/criminally minded person, you have no idea where or to whom your information has gone to and you can never get it back or protect it ever again.

15. Create a new email address just for Craigslist/job searching and use that instead of your real email address. I advise this because if your Craigslist/job searching email address is discovered by scammers/criminals and you get spam, 419 emails and other scammer emails, you can just delete it and create a new one, without any trouble or inconvenience. But being forced to change your real/usual email address is a much harder proposition as it is full of inconvenience of informing everyone you know about a new email address you have and having to update all those websites and accounts that you’ve registered your details with on over the years, etc. This is a lot of hassle and trouble we can all do without. Also, in my opinion, you shouldn’t ever publish your real/private email address – give that only to family, friends and others who you really trust.

A current list of email addresses used in fake job and other fake adverts on Craigslist in 2015

The following list of websites (or web addresses that eventually lead to other websites), are those that have been used in fake, scam, deceptive and conspicuous job postings and are, at the very least not actual jobs at all, or are suspected of being of the two following types:

• A deception, a phoney website/business, created and operated by a global network of vicious, nasty criminal people, who post thousands of fake job ads on Craigslist, all over the country from overseas, in order to entice people into submitting their private and personal information, either via direct input onto fake recruitment websites, or by submitting their resumes through anonymous web sites like Craigslist.
One of the main purposes of this stealing & collecting of private information is to steal people’s identity. In addition, these criminals also try to carry out numerous scams, deceptions and tricks on vulnerable people, who need *real* work. The check overpayment/counterfeit check scam is one of the more well known scams perpetrated by people like these.

In addition, such websites are often sources of malicious software, which get downloaded onto your computer as soon as you visit these sites. This software subjects you and your computer to all kinds of viruses, trojans, malware and spyware as well, as highjacking your computer until you pay a ransom. Look up Ransomware for more on this crime.

• An attempt, often by sketchy, dubious, deceptive and criminal people, to entice you into some “scheme”, such as so called “money making secrets”, “Make money fast – no experience necessary”, so called “work at home” jobs (which aren’t jobs at all), underhand demands to pay fees to “qualify” for being an “agent”, or some so-called “great idea” that someone is going to let you in on, for some strange reason. All of these things (which are all old tricks) are not real jobs but attempts at luring those who need real jobs into doing something that is one or more of the following: high risk, a self-employed agent, business propositions masquerading as jobs, illegal, dubious, fraudulent, commission only and/or one where you will be exploited. Also, these unscrupulous people offer alleged training (which they charge you for), to “help you get a job”, but this so-called training rarely benefits you as much as the company offering the training, if you get any training at all that is. The only people who benefit are those who are behind these deplorable and immoral operations and not you, that is for sure.

If these schemes/ideas/secrets were so great, why don’t the people behind these ads just do it themselves? Why do they need to advertise for new people, constantly and endlessly, to prop up their alleged super success?
Just think about it – if you found a way to earn money that was legal but wasn’t a job and it was easy and you were successful, would you tell anybody else? Those who do so in these situations do so only so they can use/exploit you in some way and so without getting you and others involved, these people can’t make the money they claim.

A list of phone numbers used in fake/scam/deceptive/dubious job postings on Craigslist

This ad is a repeat of a previously reported scam. What really chaps my hide is that they portray themselves as military personnel. I am a combat veteran and this really gets my hackles up.
The Craigslist ad said to text to a cell – 323 451 9618. But “She” texted me back on a “friend’s” cell at 615 824 7891 saying her phone was dead, and gave me her email – barbaracoop@gmail.com – for further info. When I tried to look the trailer up again the ad had been pulled. My suspicions were confirmed when I researched the military info in her email.
Here is the last email I received.

Hello again ,

Right now I’m in a military base ( Omaha , NE ). We are training, getting ready for Afghanistan. I am only allowed to check my email twice a day. We have to stick to e-mail for now. Hope you can understand. Like I already said, the delivery process will be managed by me. I think I can have it there at your home address within 2-3 working days. I am a member of the eBay buyer protection program and using this service you will get a 5 days testing/inspecting period after delivery. During that 5 days inspecting period I will not be getting any money.If you decide when you receive the vehicle that for any reason you don’t want to keep it then you will send it back on my expense. I need to know if you are interested so I can ask eBay to send you the details on this deal ! If interested please include in your next email your contact info for eBay (full name, shipping address and phone number), so we can get the ball rolling.

The poor grammar is also a flag. Saying that the deal will be completed through Ebay is a flag since the ad was posted on Craigslist. It’s hard to believe that people fall for these. Greed and desperation fog common sense.

Hello,

I’ve received your email regarding the 1998 POLARIS 4X4 SPORTSMAN 500 4×4. The ATV is still for sale. It has 1,840 Miles, Engine 500 cc (LIQUID COOLED SINGLE CYLINDER CARBURETED ENGINE), 4-Wheel Drive, Automatic. The ATV has been kept in doors climate controlled the entire winter. I’m asking $500 for it, not negotiable. The ATV belonged to my father who passed away this year after a long bout with cancer and brings me a lot of memories that make me suffer and this is the reason for what I want to sell it as soon as possible. It has a clear title, no problems whatsoever, also I was named executor in his will so there won’t be any legal problems regarding the sale of the ATV. Email above lady tells me selling car for $2000 bcuz her daughter is sick & car is stored in eBay warehouse. Tht eBay would contact me with info. & hoe to pay for car. It all sounded fishy to me. Then I got email from eBay warehouse tht they would ship it for free & had 10 days to test drive & funds would not be released till I was satisfied of I could send it back & get full refund. They ask you to use green dot money pak card to pay. Don’t fall for it! I did research & all similar stories. Thank god I didn’t go thru with it but I think it should b reported & hopefully they can find these low life’s taking innocent people’s money.
