Craiglist/eBay Motor Scam $1500 Truck

Saw a post from Eva.renne20@comcast.net advertising a 1998 Chevy Silverado with low miles for $1500.
Claimed to be shipping out overseas soon, needed the deal done within 10 days, very poor grammar in response emails, claiming to use eBay Motors Vehicle Protection Plan via ebay gift cards as payment!

Total and 100% scam. Prety sure the person uses more than one comcast.net email account (at least ’20’ of them now?) so do NOT use gift cards to pay for anything. If you can’t see the vehicle or touch it, don’t buy it.

Be smart when shopping online and search out possible scams if the deal seems to good to be true. It can save you tons of money and hassle.

I need your full name and shipping address so I can start the transaction. I removed the add because people are interested and keep contacting me about the suv if is still for sale.
Thanks

Hi Laura – So you’re selling the truck thru ebay? I’m confused as to how this would work. Why do you need my full address? Won’t my name and zip code work for a shipping estimate? I’m not comfortable giving you my full address until I can verify this sale. It’s very weird. What can you provide me with so this feels less fraudulent than it seems to be?

From: Laura Hankins

Hi, the price is lower then the market because I have financial necessities and I want to sell it fast, like I said in my first email, I moved to Omaha, NE to my sister. The truck is with me, and it’s ready to be delivered to its next owner. I am responsible only for the shipping. I am not involved in the payment process. Payment is between you and eBay. I get paid only after you receive the truck and agree to its condition. If you won’t like the truck, eBay will fully refund you and I will get the truck back. If you are interested and you want to review the terms from eBay, please email me your info so I can fill out the form on eBay. I need your name and an address where you want the truck delivered. Once I have it, I will fill out the form and eBay will send you all the details on how this works.
Thank you

Hi Laura – Thanks for responding. I am definitely interested in the truck, but would really like to see it personally. Is the car here in IL?
You are listing this truck at 7-8k less than blue book, and I understand the need to just get rid of it

Let me know if I can come look at the truck somewhere close to Glenview (which is where the truck as listed).

Thanks!

Hi,

glad you are one of the people interested in buying my truck, I have a low price for my 2002 Toyota Tacoma 4×4 ($ 2,000 including delivery to your home address), because I want to sell the truck very quickly. My husband died 2 months ago (he had a heart attack) and this vehicle brings me bad memories and that’s the reason that I want to sell it. I along with my daughter decided to sell the house and we moved to my sister in Nebraska. Unfortunately I can’t conclude this transaction personally because my work involves a lot of traveling, but I left everything prepared for the sale.

The truck looks and runs great, clean carfax, 84,200 miles, gasoline fuel, automatic transmission. It has no damage, garage kept. I have had regular oil changes. The truck is registered on my name and the title is clear (no lien). Not interested in a trade.

If you are really interested in purchasing, please email me with your details (name and address) for the shipping.
I attached some pictures with my truck and here are more pictures: http://www.use.com/KBY8h

Hello and thanks for the reply,

I figured a fresh start would do me good, so I packed up and moved to my home town, with my job (I am a military doctor), Before leaving I had prearranged the deal with eBay Motors so my presence isn’t necessary.
The deal is handled by eBay Motors and the truck is stored with all the paperwork in eBay warehouse number 21,in Hartford, CT,sealed and ready for delivery.
The shipping it’s offered by eBay to me so there will be no cost from your side. In addition, you will have 5 days to try out prior to making any purchase and if by any reason you find something you don’t like about it, hidden defects or anything else different from what I described you can send it back on my expense but I assure you that is not going to happen since my 2007 Toyota Tacoma is in immaculate condition inside and out. I want to make it very clear, I won’t be receiving a single dollar unless you inspect the truck.

If you are ready to buy it and you have the cash available, please reply with your Full Name, Address and Phone #. I responded to the ad via text message to the following phone number: 214-225-5326, (214) 225-5326, 2142255326

The text response was:

Got an email at 4am this morning from one “Carol Schnell” (notice the difference between the name and the email address) which said:

Hello there,
Glad you are one of the people interested in buying my 1994 Toyota Tacoma. Let me give you a few details about it: very good shape, no mechanical issues,no scratches nor dents, and it has never been involved in any kind of accidents. Has only 172,000 miles, its manual, with an 3.0L V6 cylinders engine, 4WD, blue exterior and blue interior and you can find the pics attached to this email. The sale price is $1,800. I have a clear title, free of any liens or loans on it, under my name.I’m selling it because i recently got divorced and I don’t need it and that’s the reason I want to sell it a.s.a.p. I want to use Amazon services for the safety of both of us so if you’re interested in purchasing this truck, I can notify Amazon that you are selected as my possible buyer and they will contact you to explain the entire procedure.
If you are interested in buying it or if you have any questions, please reply to this email.

Sincerely,

3rd Red Flag: Email at 4am
4th Red Flag: Did not answer the question that I had asked in my initial email, which was “Does the truck have cruise control?”
5th Red Flag: Not local apparently, wants to do this through “Amazon services,” and allegedly for my protection.

LOL. Give me a break. It was pretty clear to me that this was scamscummilicious, so I googled a part of the text of the email and found all kinds of sites with some of the exact phraseology. Not even an attempt to use different lanuage.

Craigslist Charlotte 2014 Tesla Model S Performance – $35000

Hi,
Many thanks for your nice words!

I’m glad to see you have a high interest. I’d like to use eBay – I don’t need to be present to close the deal because I prearranged it with eBay. They’ll hold the money so you have the chance to inspect the title and the car. Only after you’ve had the chance to do all that will you call eBay and have them release the money. You’re not committed to buy the car either; if you request a refund, eBay will provide it within 24h.

The price includes the delivery and the whole process takes anywhere between 2 – 3 days. After you receive the car, you have a 5 days inspection period – I advise you to have it professionally checked just be 100% sure that there are no issues with it. I’d be really surprised if you found any. There’s also a rejection policy – in case you find any problems. In this case I’ll pay for the returning fees.

If you’re interested in learning more about how it actually works, then all I need is your name, delivery address and phone – eBay will guide you trough the process.

Thanks

I'm selling my car for $35,000, because my husband died two months ago, he had a heart attack. I decided to sell the house and I moved to my mom, trying to start a new life. With a price like that, you might expect it to have some problems, but this car is excellent condition – both mechanically and electrically, no damage history. Since we bought this car, I haven't had any time to enjoy it, and things don't seem to be changing. So, I have decided to let it go. Someone will get a car that they will love.

The car is back in Helen, GA. The thing is, right now, I'm not there because I'm a maintenance worker for the state of GA – we're currently working on the highway. If you have any other questions, or need more info, please feel free to ask.

Thanks,

Before leaving I had pre-arranged a deal with eBay so my presence is not necessary. The vehicle is in their possession, at eBay Storage Facility No 8 in Jackson, MS, ready to be delivered. eBay will handle this transaction for me. The total amount that you will pay is $3.800, with shipping and transfer fees included. You will receive the vehicle in max 48 hours and you will have the chance to inspect it for 5 days. The eBay department will hold and insure your money throughout the inspection. If by any reason you find something you don’t like about the truck you can send it back at my expense and eBay will send you a full refund. I’m sure it won’t be the case because the vehicle is in excellent condition. It will come with all the necessary paperwork (clear title, bill of sale, user’s manual etc). You will receive all the original documents. I signed all the paperwork and the clear title is ready to be transferred to the new owner.

If you are interested in buying my vehicle please send me your full name, full shipping address and phone number so I can register the transaction with eBay and they will reply you with more details and information about this transaction.

You are receiving this e-mail because Amy Hanet, has selected eBay Buyer Protection to handle a secure online transaction with you. This was a scam that I was brought in to via Facebook on a vehicle buy sell trade site. I have done a lot of research on this and if you google the email address amy2hanet@gmail.com you will get a hit from all over the US with the same scam. Nice car for sale and email my sister for details. She is going to sell me a 2008 Toyota Rav4 because her husband died and she moved to Boston. Same story with other versions. Today I got my invoice from “eBay Buyer Protection” telling me to buy 3 eBay cards for $500 each to pay for the car. This includes shipping. Please beware! If it’s too good to be true it is!

I’m a single mom that had to quit my job because my company doubled our travel requirements & there was no way for me to manage being away from my little one for 2 weeks every month. I’m currently searching for a new opportunity. I’ve been bummed because we are living in a little lake house but we don’t have a boat & summer is coming.
Last night I found a beautiful pontoon boat on Craigslist for $2,500…figured it was a misprint and reached out for more info. I’m basically broke but just received a large tax return. So, I thought if this was for real I would risk it! I showed my son the picture of this beautiful 21ft red Bennington 2009 pontoon boat. He said, “Oh Mom, We HAVE to get that boat!!!” So I responded to the ad & also sent an email to the email address provided. amanda81hs@gmail.com

She replied…

Hello,

Thank you for your interest in purchasing my 2009 Sedonda Bennington 2075 with trailer. The reason I’m selling this boat way below market value, is because I’m serving in Offutt AFB, Nebraska but I was promoted and transferred to Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage Alaska for a 3 years period, so I don’t need it anymore at this time. I don’t want it get old in my garage, and I need to sell it before April 13th. The boat is in pristine condition, single outboard engine, clear title, no dents or dings. Always garaged, never abused or raced, 90 HP, gas fuel type and 21 feet. If you are interested, it’s still available for sale and the price, as stated in the ad, is $2,500. Let me know if you are interested.

USAF Staff Sgt. Amanda Hudson

I was so excited! Military…sounds trustworthy… female…a little extra trustworthy…moving to Alaska…wants some quick cash…sure.
I was doubtful that someone in the military could afford to take a huge hit on a luxury item like a boat so I started researching what these were actually selling for…about $25k that’s suspicious! I looked up Amanda Hudson on Facebook & found no one in the service. I googled USAF Staff Sgt. Amanda Hudson and these scam warning sites came up!
I’m so disappointed! I really got my hopes up…that this was going to be a huge break for me! ?
I know…if it sounds to good to be true it is… luckily I was smart enough to do some digging…I would never have wired someone money without seeing the boat anyway.

I had already emailed her…/(The heartless theif” in some basement in Turkey somewhere running this huge scam operation)…back asking for pics of the inside & asking where the boat was so I could come see it.

This was the response…

Hi again,

As I’ve told you, at this moment I am in Offutt AFB, NE in a military base. I do a special training program each day, and we are not allowed to use phone line or get out of the unit, during training, otherwise I would have called you and seal the deal on phone. At the moment, email works best for me. The boat is already at our Offutt Air Force Base Library form Offutt AFB, NE sealed and ready to go. The delivery process will be managed by me. I think I can have it there at your home address within 2-3 working days. It will come with a clear title and reg. I am a member of the eBay buyer protection program and using this service you will get a 5 days testing period after delivery. I need to know if you are interested so I can ask eBay to send you the details on this deal. If interested please include in your next email your contact info for eBay (full name, shipping address and phone number), so we can get the ball rolling.

Thank you!

My questions…

1. Why is she advertising in Jackson, MI is she is in Nebraska?

2. I never have her my phone number why would she suggest she would have called.

3. What does ebay have to do with any of this?

What a heartless piece of crap!!!

Please avoid this military/shipping scam!!!!

My name is Eryn, happy to see you are interested in my 2009 Fleetwood Compass.716FD. Let me give you a few details about it. Really good shape, never had any problems with it, Length (feet): 16, Sleeping Capacity: 5. Everything is in working order (sinks, pump, toilet, shower, holding tanks, fridge, heater, A/C, stereo, stovetop, tv, microwave). The price was reduced at $1,500. Because of my divorce settlement, I own this camper and as a woman i don`t need it so i`m trying to get rid of it as soon as possible that`s why i`m selling it so cheap.

Here is a link to the camper photo gallery: http://imgur.com/a/lLYO4

Please let me know if you are interested and where are you located.

Sincerely,Eryn

Hi,
Sorry for delay, my name is Avery, happy to see you are interested in my 2009 Toyota Camry SE V6 FWD. Let me give you a few details about it. Really good shape, never had any problems with it, no scratches or dents, 56,720 Miles, Automatic, 3.5L Gasoline V6 engine, VIN:4T1BK46K39U096954, the title is clear in my name.

The price was reduced at $3,000. I’m selling it so low due the fact that my medical team will deploy back overseas on May 20th for a 18 months contract and it’s not worth keeping insurance and paying storage fees for it so there’s no use on keeping it, therefore I need a fast and reliable buyer. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask.

The scam being ran by Duffy021@gmail. com is part of a network of thieves, there now using Gmail .com addresses without phone numbers on Craigslist “beware”, the value they placed on a car well below the value of the car, The scam is either that they are moving from one airbase to another,,,or get this! They say they have set this sale up for their sister and to use this gmail account to contact her…Then the story thickens,,it seems her husband just died and the car , truck , suv is leaving poor memories of her husband,,they’ve had to sell the house and move to another state to live with her sister,,but if you want the car, truck , suv you go through amazon, ebay , ect escrow that is setup and pay there and they will ship the vehicle and if you dont like it you `can return it which are included in the sale. (ok now think about, your buying a vehicle for 2,000 dollars and you live in Flagstaff AZ,,lowest cost to ship is
$1247.00..so they have lost money on this sale and have pay the shipping company
for the return cost,, do think that makes good sense?) Always ask to see the vehicle,
always ask for the vehicle vin number,, run the carfax it will tell you if the vehicle is even about or near your state…dont fall for their scams
the funds and they’ll hold them till you receive the car, truck ,suv
